The Union Health Ministry has highlighted that several schemes have been successfully implemented across India to strengthen healthcare infrastructure. Importantly, over 14,000 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra have been established nationwide to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana. The scheme offers 2,047 types of medicines and 300 surgical devices, including cardiovascular, anti-cancer, and anti-diabetic drugs.
Additionally, AMRIT pharmacies have been established across 29 states and union territories to sell over 6,500 drugs, implants, surgical disposables, and other consumables at discounts of up to 50% off market rates.
