In recent years, there has been increase in live expectancy of person infected with HIV due to availability of highly effective antiretroviral therapy. Also, there are evidence that maternal to fetal transmission of HIV can be decreased to minimum if proper antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum measures are taken. Therefore it is not uncommon to find HIV infected women who opt for pregnancy. Unless we adhere to set protocols, we are bound the increase further complication in the baby.
Hence, we should be cognizant of the current status of treatment in this subset of patients.
