Case presentation: A 23-year-old Caucasian male with chronic insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus was brought to the emergency department. The patient’s mother informed that he was lethargic and confused that morning. Medical history: As per the patient’s mother, he was in good health, with no history of any other illness. Social history: The patient did not consume alcohol, smoke, or use illicit drugs. Medication history: He was on insulin detemir and insulin aspart for two years. Surgical and family history: He had no significant family history and had no previous surgical history either.
