More than one billion people worldwide are affected with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and around 2.4 to 4.9% of males and 1 to 2 % of females in India are affected by OSA. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is generally used to treat OSA. However, nowadays, many patients prefer hypoglossal nerve stimulator (HGNS), a surgically implantable device approved by the Food and Drug Administration, USA. HGNS stimulates the hypoglossal nerve and moves the tongue forward to reduce airway obstruction.
