India has become a global leader in organ transplantation. The 1st Indian liver transplant recipient, now 21, did not have an ordinary childhood. At just 20 months of age, he had a part of his father's liver transplanted into him in November 1998.
In doing so, he and his doctors created history in the annals of Indian Medicine as the country's first successful liver transplant surgery. Remarkably, not only has Sanjay done exceedingly well, he is now training to be a doctor himself - a testament to the expertise of the treating team and the tenacity of him and the family.
