Despite global efforts to address vaccine-derived poliovirus (VDPV) challenges, a rare case of VDPV transmission has emerged from Kerala, India. VDPV was transmitted from an immune-deficient child to his asymptomatic father, highlighting potential risks of community spread from susceptible individuals. This finding resulted from a comprehensive exercise undertaken by the ICMR-National Institute of Virology, Mumbai, ICMR-National Institute of Immunohematology, and the World Health Organisation. The study involved screening 157 children across India with inborn errors of immunity for poliovirus and non-polio enteroviruses.
