Synopsis Knee osteoarthritis is the most prevalent form of arthritis that significantly affects the quality of life. Osteoarthritis occurs due to irreversible bone resorption and tearing of cartilages with aging, resulting in swelling and inflammation of the knees, painful knee movements, and eventual disability. Management of osteoarthritis includes therapies for alleviating pain and preventing or slowing down bone resorption. Bisphosphonate class of drugs are useful in reducing cartilage deterioration by inhibiting subchondral bone resorption.
