Aortic stenosis (AS) is a prevalent primary valve disease, affecting 2.8% of the geriatric population. Evidence suggests that CKD is a well-established promotor of cardiovascular calcification. Despite the availability of the above-mentioned literature, there remains uncertainty regarding the association between risk of AS and degree of kidney dysfunction in patients who are not undergoing dialysis. In this regard, a large population-based cohort study was conducted to assess the link between kidney dysfunction and AS incidence.

This study has included 1,121,875 (median age 50 years) individuals who were not previously diagnosed with AS. It was found that the risk of AS was inversely proportional to the estimated glomerular filtration rate. Thus, moderate to severe CKD is linked with an increased risk of developing AS.
