Vitamin D deficiency is mainly associated with fractures and bone diseases. However, recent studies have demonstrated a link between vitamin D deficiency and the risk of developing several types of cancer. In a study conducted at the National Cancer Center in Tokyo, the researchers found that higher vitamin D concentration was associated with a lower risk of cancer.

The conclusion was drawn based on the study involving 33,736 healthy volunteers aged between 40 and 69 years. The researchers found that participants in the quartile with the highest vitamin D levels had a 22% lower risk of cancer compared to those in the bottom quartile indicating lowest vitamin D levels.
