Obstructed defecation mainly affects women and may be due both to functional and organic disorders. Two out of ten patients present with occult causes which are more difficult to diagnose. Due to its complex etiology and psychological involvement, obstructed defecation needs a multidisciplinary approach.
ODS is a type of constipation characterized by fragmented stools, need for straining at defecation, sense of incomplete evacuation, tenesmus, urgency, pelvic heaviness, and self-digitation.
