Pediatric pharyngitis is the most common pathology in pediatric age worldwide. Approximately 10% of children present with pharyngitis each year, and 25-50% of these children have group A Streptococcus (GABHS) pharyngitis. The current article overviews about pediatric pharyngitis, its clinical presentation and management. Acute pharyngitis is generally defined as an infection of the pharynx and/or tonsils.
It is a most common infection that occurs among children and adolescents. Mostly, acute pharyngitis episodes are viral but GABHS is responsible for 37% of cases of acute pharyngitis in children older than 5 years.
