Diploma courses granted by the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Mumbai have been recognized by the Medical Council of India after almost a decade-long tussle, during which the MCI had derecognized its 17 diploma courses in 2009. It is a major victory for CPS as the recognition is with retrospective effect for all diplomas granted by it in all these specialties on or after December 2009. In keeping with the Supreme Court order on a single entrance for all postgraduate courses, CPS too will be taking in only NEET-qualified candidates and through a centralized counselling.
Currently, about 1,600 MBBS graduates from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Dadra and Nagar Haveli are enrolled for various CPS diploma courses.
