Non-small-cell-lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for 80-85% of all lung cancer cases. Around 90% of the lung cancers are related smoking. This article provides highlights of practice guidelines proposed by European Society For Medical Oncology (ESMO) for the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of NSCLC. The incidence of lung cancer rates varies considerably throughout the world. In case of European patients, mortality rates are higher in women and the trends in lung cancer mortality in men have decreased.
The major histopathological subtypes include adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and large cell carcinoma.
