Cytotoxic antracenedione mitoxantrone has shown the efficacy as a disease-modifying therapy in patients with worsening and relapsing secondary multiple sclerosis (MS). However, the safety and its risk for developing malignancies has not been well established. The study published in the journal Neurology states that it may elevate the risk of leukemia and colorectal cancer in patients with MS.
