Almost half of the world’s population lives in the country where Dengue is epidemic. In India Dengue fever (DF) was first reported in 1956 from the district of Vellore in Tamil Nadu. The first dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) outbreak occurred in Calcutta (West Bengal) in 1963. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 50–100 million new dengue infections are estimated to occur annually in more than 100 endemic countries.
