The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission-II, Visakhapatnam, India, has found a private eye hospital, its director, and two ophthalmologists guilty of medical negligence and ordered them to pay Rs 15 lakh in compensation to a patient who lost vision in one eye . The case dates back to five years ago when the patient sustained an eye injury from an air rifle pellet. Despite being admitted to the Eye Institute, the doctors failed to perform necessary pre-surgery tests, including a B-scan, before conducting surgery for a corneal tear.

After the surgery, the patient's condition did not improve, and a later CT scan at another hospital revealed that part of the pellet remained in the eye, necessitating further surgeries.
