A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine has shown that a new antibiotic zoliflodacin has been effective in treating most cases of uncomplicated gonorrhea. Moreover, the phase 2 multicenter clinical trial showed that the new antibiotic is also well-tolerated in patients. Nesseria gonorrhoeae , the causative agent of gonorrhea has progressively developed resistance to most antibiotics.

The antibiotic was effective in treating all cases of rectal gonorrhea with a transient gastrointestinal upset as the only side-effect. Post-treatment clinical isolates were not resistant to the antibiotic used. Source: Sciencedaily
