Nearly 35 million cases of infertility, worldwide, are caused due to male factors. Motility, velocity, morphology, concentration, count and volume are some of the factors that affect male fertility. Testing for fertility results requires long wait time for results and skilled technicians in a laboratory setting. Researchers at the Florida Atlantic University's College of Engineering and Computer Science have developed a home-based kit to evaluate sperm quality and detect infertility. The kit involves an evaluating system that uses microfluidics, a smartphone, and an app.
The kit will work based on a lens called sperm scope that can act as a microscope attached with the phone. It will also analyze semen in the microfluidic chamber at the level of microns. The kit is supposed to be user-friendly and cost-effective with easy to read results. Home testing will enable users to test fertility…
