Ischemic mitral regurgitation is always associated with high morbidity and mortality. In such cases, surgical intervention to the coronary-artery bypass grafting has always been doubtful. In relation to this, a recent study from NEJM has reported that there is no significant difference in the results due to the surgical intervention for moderate ischemic mitral regurgitation. Functional-value incompetence due to myocardial injury and adverse left ventricular remodeling leads to ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR).

Approximately half of the patients have reported the condition after an infarction and around 10% patients have reported moderate regurgitation. IMR is always associated with high mortality irrespective of the treatment.
