As it is rightly said that “The secret of getting ahead is getting started”. In this context every year, May 31st is observed as World No Tobacco Day (WNTD). It is celebrated to encourage people to say no to tobacco and smoking. It is intended to promote a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption around the globe.
May 31st is supposed to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and its negative health effects. These effects currently lead to nearly 6 million deaths each year worldwide 600,000 amongst which are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.
