The general anesthesia without opioid is safe, effective and decreases postoperative nausea, reported a single-centre study of more than 1,000 patients which was being presented at the Anesthesiology annual meet 2017. The physician anesthesiologists can change the opioid dependency crisis by avoiding the use of opioids intraoperatively and helping surgeons to understand the importance of offering patient different options for pain after surgery. Opioids such as fentanyl, which is more powerful than heroin are included in the combination of medications given to patients for general anesthesia during surgery.
