A 22-year-old primigravid woman, in her 26th week of pregnancy, developed increasingly disabling pain in the pelvic girdle pain. She was suspected to have sacroiliac and pubic symphysial joint pain and was advised to take simple analgesics, undergo physiotherapy, and subsequently bed rest. She had lived in Britain since her childhood and was a non-vegetarian. She had no past medical history.
Two days after delivering a healthy baby boy after 39 weeks, her lower back and bilateral hip pain worsened, with bony tenderness over the pubic rami and restricted movement in both hips. Proximal muscle weakness of the lower limbs and bilateral pedal edema was observed.
