A study conducted by the researchers from the Universiti  Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia has shown that the human papillomavirus (HPV) 52 is the most common type of HPV infection among women in urban areas of Malaysia. The study also indicated that Chinese ethnic women are highly affected by the HPV infection in Malaysia. Cervical cancer , mainly associated with HPV infection, is the fourth leading cause of cancer in women worldwide. It is the second most common cancer among Malaysian women between the age of 15 and 44 years and the third leading cause of cancer-related death in Malaysian women.
