Healthcare system in India is heavily burdened with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and it is crucial to understand the prevalence of depression associated with T2DM. Several clinical studies have suggested a bi-directional association between depression and diabetes. Moreover, clinical evidence found that depressed individuals have 60 times more risk of developing diabetes, whereas diabetic patients are at 15% more risk of getting into co-morbid depression. In this regard, a recent metanalysis published in the journal, Psychiatric Research estimated the pooled prevalence of depression among Indian diabetic population.
