According to a latest study, patients with cochlear implantation receiving prolonged antibiotic treatment were found to suffer from less infection. The study compared the effect of prolonged antibiotic treatment and a single perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis. Infection was rare in patients receiving prolonged treatment compared to a single dose and the effect was less likely in adults compared to children.
