Worldwide, the incidence of uveal melanoma is estimated as 6679–7095 patients per year. A recent study published in the British medical journal evaluated ruthenium-106 (Ru106) brachytherapy as an eye-conserving treatment of iris melanomas (IMs) and iridociliary melanomas (ICMs). Moreover, the study also examines the effects of ruthenium -106 brachytherapy on the visual acuity. A uveal melanoma is a malignant neoplasm which generally arises from neural crest-derived melanocytes within the choroid, ciliary body or iris.
The therapeutic management of this neoplasms mainly depends on tumor location, size, preference of the patient and visual acuity (VA) of both eyes.
