Case presentation A 13-year-old adolescent boy was referred to the ED by a pediatrician to evaluate fever and a frontal headache present for the last 6 to 7 days. The boy denied any current nasal discharge but reported having a cold three weeks ago. Past medical assessment and treatment The pediatrician diagnosed the patient with sinusitis and had previously prescribed the patient a 5-day course of amoxicillin.

However, the patient’s condition did not improve with the prescribed medication.
