In geriatric patients with serious comorbidities, cholecystectomy after endoscopic sphincterotomy was associated with a significant reduction in recurrent complications compared to sphincterotomy alone, says a study published recently in the American Journal Of Gastroenterology. Cholecystectomy surgical complications did not outweigh the benefits, highlighting the importance of cholecystectomy, even in elderly patients.
