A 42-year-old woman presented with complaints of swelling and pain in the fifth finger of her left hand for last 7 days. She reported no related trauma. The patient reported a history of systemic lupus erythematosus for which she was taking mycophenolate mofetil and prednisolone. Further questioning revealed that the patient’s husband, who had recently traveled to China, had a cough that developed soon after he returned home. He was afterward diagnosed with active pulmonary tuberculosis.
Physical examination - Affected finger revealed soft-tissue swelling, with erythema and warmth, most prominent between the proximal and distal interphalangeal joints, sparing the fingertip.
