Case presentation A 76-year-old man presented in the emergency department because his right hand and arm suddenly became numb, heavy, and weak. His symptoms developed in the morning when he could not properly hold a glass of water. He also started having difficulty explaining this to his family members. As he was waiting to be assessed, his symptoms began to resolve, such that when he was examined 90 minutes after the onset of symptoms, he was completely back to normal.
There had been no associated headache, nausea or vomiting, photo - or phonophobia, and there were no abnormal movements in his weak hand or arm.
