Super specialization (which is, in reality, ‘subspecialisation) was originally started with the argument for advancing research and not for augmenting the market value of the doctor for private practice or for finding a good matrimonial alliance as is happening now in India. Ideally the salary for the super specialist should not be higher than that of a general practitioner (Family doctor).
There is no need for any higher degree after post graduation (MD/MS); it is worthwhile remembering that India alone has a structured degree course after MD- that is the DM course.
