Painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN) affects around 16% of diabetic patients and frequently remains unreported and hence, untreated. This guideline provides an overview of the available pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments to reduce the pain and improve physical function and quality of life of PDN patients. Painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN) is a symmetric and length dependent injury to the peripheral nerves. PDN causes pain or numbness in the legs and affects quality of life of the patients substantially.

Although there are pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments are available, management requires an understanding of the evidence for each intervention.
