The US FDA has approved a combination of foscarbidopa and foslevodopa to treat motor fluctuations in adults with advanced Parkinson’s disease. The combination therapy consists of two prodrugs, carbidopa-4’-monophosphate, and levodopa-4’-monophosphate, which will be converted to carbidopa and levodopa in vivo. Clinical evidence In a study conducted on 141 patients, the combination therapy significantly improved motor fluctuations at 12 weeks without causing troublesome dyskinesia compared to the combination of oral carbidopa and levodopa treatment.

Notably, the combination therapy also reduced the frequency of symptom recurrence in the patients.
