In the world’s first complete study, Swedish researchers have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of uterus transplantation in nine women. Among the nine recipients, seven underwent in vitro fertilization , and six gave birth to nine babies (three women had twins). Fetal growth was normal in all the cases. However, preeclampsia was noticed in three recipients, and respiratory distress syndrome developed in four newborns. Besides minor leg swelling or mild discomfort, no pelvic symptoms were found in the donors.

The four-year follow-up showed that the recipients had a healthier life than the general population. Similarly, the children were also healthy during the two-year follow-up. In addition, none of the donors or recipients had severe anxiety or depression. Do you think uterus transplantation is an efficient infertility treatment option for women?
