Vaginal vault prolapse is a complication following vaginal hysterectomy with a negative impact on women's quality of life due to associated urinary, anorectal and sexual dysfunction. This article tries to focus the problem of vault prolapse and the various techniques for its correction. Vaginal vault prolapse has been defined by the International Continence Society as the descent of the vaginal cuff below a point that is 2 cm less than the total vaginal length above the plane of the hymen.
It occurs when the upper vagina bulges into or outside the vagina. Coexistence of pelvic floor defects which may be a cystocoele, rectocoele or enterocoele are seen in 72% of patients with vault prolapse.
