Conventional duration of antibiotics course in pyelonephritis is 14 days.The study published in BMJ based on trial results showed that duration of treatment with ciprofloxacin for 7 days and for levofloxacin 5 days is sufficient.The current guidelines recommended 14 days treatment with beta lactam antibiotics.No trial of short-term use of beta lactam antibiotics has been conducted.
