A junior doctor, who is just learning the ropes, is on duty in the casualty or ward and faced with a patient in a critical condition. Imagine his plight if he is not able to consult the clinician, even on the phone. I would like to share one such sorry incident where the junior doctor tried to contact the clinician for an emergency, but the clinician did not respond. The MCI has very clearly mandated what a doctor is supposed to know at the end of his/her internship.

Sadly, the ground reality is very different. Many undergraduates bypass the proper training and do not have the necessary skills as laid down by the MCI even after completing their internships.
