Case presentation A 36-year-old woman presented herself to the gastroenterologist with symptoms of recurrent diarrhea. She had a medical history of Hashimoto thyroiditis and hypertension. She had been suffering from abdominal cramps, flatulence, bloating, and discomfort after eating. She also complained of "a foggy brain," reduced memory, delayed thinking, and drowsiness.
This was accompanied by intermittent muscle and joint aches. No other symptoms were observed, and the patient had no family history of gastrointestinal diseases, celiac disease, or inflammatory bowel syndrome. She tried changing her diet and noticed that removing gluten from her diet relieved diarrhea and the foggy brain.
