Medical Council of India (MCI) has refused to grant the license to 1706 doctors with a post-graduate diploma in clinical cardiology (PGDCC) from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). This loss has taken a hit across India as the positions of cardiologists have shrunk. The MCI has taken a recent decision to repudiate the degree for PGDCC course completed between 2006-13 from IGNOU. Enrollment in the full-time course was conducted after an all-India entrance exam.
The PGDCC program is designed for MBBS graduates to develop a cadre of cardiologists.
