Case presentation A 17-year-old male traveler from Malawi complained of acute abdominal pain. In addition, the patient reported yellowish-brown ejaculatory discharge two weeks before this presentation. Laboratory examination showed leucocytosis (21.9 x 10 9 per L), eosinophilia (15.3 x 10 9 per L), and slightly elevated levels of alanine aminotransferase. Appendicitis was suspected, and laparoscopic appendectomy was performed.
During appendectomy, a macroscopic investigation of the liver showed raised white spots on the liver surface (Image A). A CT scan of the thorax and abdomen revealed nodular pulmonary infiltrates (Image B). What could have caused white spots on this patient's liver? Sarcoidosis Hepatocellular carcinoma Schistosomiasis Toxoplasmosis (Answer is posted in the comment section below!) *This Case Challenge is from the Editorial Team of Docplexus and is meant forβ¦
