A 28-year-old woman presented for the refilling of her birth control prescription. She had a significant medication history and started taking birth control pills a year ago for contraception and to control heavy periods. According to her, she has experienced several episodes of severe headaches during the first two days of the pill-free month. Headaches are indicated by visual symptoms consisting of a black spot surrounded by flashing lights, enlarging for approximately 30 minutes and then fading away, followed by a left-sided headache lasting for 6 to 8 hours. Moreover, she experiences nausea and light sensitivity with headaches.

She generally takes an over-the-counter headache analgesic and goes to bed. She would like to continue taking birth control pills but also wants a permanent solution for the headaches. Her medical history is negative for migraines. Current medications Ethinyl…
