Surgeons at AIIMS New Delhi have successfully removed a 9.2-kg tumor from a 49-year-old woman who had been battling ovarian cancer for about 13 years. The patient was first diagnosed in 2011 with stage one granular cell tumor, a slow-growing ovarian tumor. She underwent staging laparotomy at AIIMS the same year, which confirmed stage I disease. Despite being under medical observation, the patient discontinued follow-up treatment for five years. In 2016, after a symptomatic recurrence of cancer, she visited a medical oncology hospital.
In 2017, the gynecology department at AIIMS performed a tumor mass excision on the patient. However, complications, including multiple serosal tears, resulted in incomplete treatment.
