Fitz-Hugh-Curtis (FHC) syndrome is a rare condition affecting women of childbearing age. However, women who suffer from pelvic inflammatory diseases are at a high risk of developing FHC syndrome and must, therefore, be regularly screened for it. It involves inflammation of the peritoneum and perihepatitis, and the diaphragm may also be involved in rare cases.
The inflammation is secondary to infection by Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis. Around 4β14% of women with PID are known to develop FHC syndrome.
