Acute surgical site infections (ASSI) after lumbar surgery is the most commonly reported complication. Studies from Indian populations report infection rates ranging from 9.3 to 20% following surgery. Although many studies have been published on surgical site infections, they did not perform a systematic assessment of the risk factors for ASSI after lumbar surgery. The current article emphasizes a retrospective study which analyzes the risk factors for ASSI following lumbar surgery.
