Introduction Dystonia is a neurological disorder characterized by abnormal involuntary movements of one or more body parts. About 50 % of dystonia patients encounter upper limb or head tremors, named dystonic tremors (DT). Medications used for treating another form of tremors called essential tremors (ET), such as anticholinergics, propranolol, clonazepam are also used for managing DT but have given suboptimal results. What was the need for the study? Several evidence-based studies have reported the efficacy of botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) in managing ET.
This has raised the possibility of botulinum toxin being useful in DT as well. However, very limited evidence is available for the same.
