Highlights Midazolam nasal spray (MDZ-NS) was developed for the outpatient treatment of patients with epilepsy experiencing seizure clusters (SC) A phase III, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluated the safety and efficacy of 5 mg MDZ-NS versus placebo in epilepsy patients having SC. A significantly higher proportion of patients achieved treatment success with MDZ–NS than placebo (53.7% vs 34.4%). MDZ-NS demonstrated rapid and sustained seizure control compared to placebo and showed tolerable safety outcomes This week’s Journal Watch summarizes the clinical trial “ Safety and efficacy of midazolam nasal spray in the outpatient treatment of patients with seizure clusters—a randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial, ” published in journal Epilepsia, 2019 .
