While coffee remains one of the most consumed beverages worldwide, a number of publications report the harmful effects of overconsumption of coffee. It is suggested that an adult can consume up to 400 mg of caffeine daily without incurring any significant risk. A growing number of publications over the last few years have, however, indicated that coffee can have several benefits in liver diseases. Studies have shown that coffee can reduce the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma, prevent cirrhosis, slow down liver fibrosis and also reduce overall mortality in patients with or without liver diseases.
