A Strike demanding 50% reservation in postgraduate medical seats for in-service doctors was held on 5 th March by the government doctors. This strike was a protest against the MCI seeking amendment to the council’s regulations. It was led by The Tamil Nadu Medical Officers Association. According to the association, 50% seats reserved for in-service doctors, strengthened the rural health services. However, when there was a change seen in this policy increase in number of vacant seats in the government facility was observed.

Last year the supreme court had ordered 50% reservation for in-service doctors by state government. It also recommended that doctors serving remote areas should be given extra marks weightage over others.
