Synopsis Increased consumption of marine n-3 fatty acids have been linked to a reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases and cancer in observational studies. However, these findings have not been confirmed in randomized trials. Thus, it remains unclear whether marine fatty acid supplementation has any benefits as far as prevention of CVDs and cancer are concerned. We've summarized a VITAL trial conducted to ascertain the need for fatty acid supplements for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
