Despite recent advances, chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains a growing clinical challenge. Medical interventions during the early stages may prevent disease progression towards end-stage renal disease (ESRD). This article discusses emerging therapeutic approaches for early-stage management of CKD. CKD remains a major burden worldwide with relatively few available therapies.

Renal replacement therapy (RRT) is a costly procedure which may not be affordable by a large section of the population.
